Nikolay Kovalev

LLM (Indiana), PhD (Queen's Belfast) & Criminology Professor (Laurier)

Dr Nikolay Kovalev has a transnational legal education and practice. He studied and taught criminal law in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and former Soviet Union states. Dr Kovalev has been an expert on criminal law for international organizations including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and American Bar Association. He assisted lawmakers in drafting criminal codes and human rights legislation in several countries.

 

He teaches criminal law, charter and criminology courses at Wilfrid Laurier University. Dr Kovalev practices as a criminal defence lawyer in Greater Toronto Area. He appeared in courts of all levels across Ontario and successfully defended clients charged with various criminal and regulatory offences including drug and firearms offences, fraud, sexual offences, criminal harassment as well as extradition cases. He is a solo-practitioner and personally chooses cases and deals with clients directly.
